One of the biggest stories to come out of the 2014 Winter Olympics is that of U.S. bobsledder Johnny Quinn getting locked in his hotel bathroom … and then busting through the door to get out. Then, soon after, he got stuck in an elevator.

And on Friday, he called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest from Sochi to shed some light on the buzzed-about moment.

“It was an unfortunate situation,” explains Johnny. “I got stuck in there without a cellphone and without a towel, so after waiting around for an hour, it was time to get out of there. I kind of hit it and it cracked, [so] I hit it a little bit harder, then my fist went through the door. At that point, when I saw the daylight from the other room, I said, ‘Hey, it’s time to get out of here.’”

If that wasn’t enough, days later Johnny was riding in an elevator — when that too went awry.

When it arrived on the first floor from the fifth floor, “the elevator opened briefly and then it shut really hard,” he says. Luckily, there were lots of people on the first floor who saw what was happening and immediately helped the Olympian get out.

Another entertaining story to come out of Sochi is that the athletes have been using dating app Tinder to hook up. So has Johnny given that a try? “I have not,” he says … because he’s engaged!

And even if he wasn’t, he’s too focused on the getting the gold. “On our crew, we came up with the slogan called ‘Prepare the Podium,’ and what the means is everything we do matters to get on that podium … our focus is on the goal at task.”
