Ohio Dad Builds Baseball Field In Backyard For Five-Year-Old Son

While Major League Baseball's All-Star Game is being held in Cleveland, one Ohio dad decided to bring baseball right to his own backyard. Jason Kidd (no, not former NBA star Jason Kidd) wanted to create some lasting memories with his five-year-old son while teaching him about the game he loves.

Kidd told WKYC that his son asked about building a baseball field a couple years earlier while they were playing T-ball in the backyard.

"About two years ago, my son and I were playing with his plastic T-ball set, and he asked if we could build a baseball field in the backyard. I kind of blew him off."

Kidd kept thinking about his son's request and decided to start working on it.

"I kind of started thinking about it. Then I started measuring to see if we have room, and now I have a baseball field."

Kidd didn't spare any expense, spending around $30,000 to bring in infield clay, regulation bases, and even a raised pitchers mound. He says the money is worth it so he can teach his son about the game he loves.

"It was my uncle and I. He taught me baseball. He got me to fall in love with the Indians and baseball. I played growing up, and he coached me. Now here I am getting to do it. It's pretty cool."

While the field is ready to be played on, Kidd still has more work he wants to do. He is planning to add foul poles, a fence, and lighting so they can host some night games for his son and his friends.

"If it becomes a popular thing, maybe we can do some charity events, a home run derby or a tournament or something like that but, really just for the kids or even the grown-ups to come out and play some ball," said Kidd.
